Full military honors: Procession planned in Port Washington as SSgt. Kerry Kemp laid to rest



PORT WASHINGTON (WITI) -- The aircraft carrying the body of SSgt. Kerry Kemp arrived at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 25th. Kemp was one of 11 killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash on March 11th in the Florida Panhandle. The crash occurred during a training exercise.

Upon departure from Mitchell Field, the hearse carrying SSgt. Kemp’s body received a law enforcement escort to Eerrnisse Funeral Home in Port Washington.

The escort entered Port Washington on Hwy 32 (S. Spring St.) and traveled northbound to W. Grand Ave. (Hwy 33) where it turned west and proceeded to the funeral home.

SSgt. Kemp’s body will again be escorted by the Port Washington Police Department on Friday, March 27th from the Eernisse Funeral home to the Port Washington High School in preparation for his visitation.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27th at Port Washington High School, with funeral services beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The family of SSgt. Kerry Kemp has requested that his burial be private and restricted to family members. The family does encourage residents and visitors to take part in the funeral procession on Saturday morning, March 28th beginning at 9:30 a.m.

SSgt. Kemp will be laid to rest with full military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Washington on Saturday morning. Kemp lived in Port Washington for a couple of years. His wife is a native of Port Washington, and the two met in high school.
