"Parents need to monitor:" Investigation at Hartland school after nude images found on school computers

HARTLAND (WITI) -- Hartland police are investigating three Arrowhead Union High School students after staff members found nude images on a pair of school computers. Police say it's the latest reminder for parents to keep a close eye on what young people are doing online.

Amber Dorschel doesn't have to worry about her son's online activity for awhile, but still, she says she's concerned over the investigation taking place at Arrowhead Union High School in Hartland.

"It is a little overwhelming to think about what`s gonna be around when he`s a little bit older," Dorschel said.

According to a search warrant filed in Waukesha County, investigators are focusing on three students accused of "sending and receiving various nude and sexually explicit images." Authorities say the images appeared on a pair of "school-owned Chromebook computers and a personal cell phone."

The students have not been charged.

The search warrant describes the students as an 18-year-old male, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male. Hartland police declined to comment specifically on this investigation, but they do have a message for parents.

"We want people to be responsible with any electronic devices themselves, but especially parents need to monitor what`s going on with children. They need to understand what they`re doing with their cell phones, laptops, iPads, computers, all of those devices,"

According to the search warrant, a staff member found an explicit image on the 16-year-old's school computer. That computer was confiscated after the student took it home overnight. The student says he received the image from the 15-year-old, who told investigators the 18-year-old had sent it to him. Investigators then found an explicit image on the 18-year-old's school computer.

Parents of even the smallest children know that one day, technology and its dangers are something that they'll have to worry about.

"At that point, I`m just hoping we`ve instilled enough morals for him to make the right decisions," Dorschel said.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is investigating this case.

The school district's superintendent wasn't available for an interview Tuesday, but told FOX6 News via phone that district officials will review and possibly enhance its message to parents about the use of electronic devices and the internet.
