Milwaukee Art Museum opens 'Beauty in Bloom,' features more than 40 florists

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Bright colors and beautiful flowers are taking over the Milwaukee Art Museum for Beauty in Bloom.

"Beauty in bloom is four days of beauty, flowers, fashion, and design," said Milwaukee Art Museum Director of Special events Krista Renfrew.

This year, floral designers used the garments on display at the museum's newest exhibit as inspiration.

"We have over 40 florists who were assigned a couture gown from the Inspiring Beauty collection and they were challenged with coming up with a creative floral installation," said Renfrew.

Floral designer Jamie Beauchamp was thrilled to transform his flowers into a unique representation of a beautiful garment with history.

"The container itself follows the curves of her body and the orchids represent her full gown," said Beauchamp.

All of the florists were selected by the Art Museum to participate in Beauty in Bloom, having no idea what gown they'd get.

"We have what we call lottery day where we randomly pick a dress and a florist so they're given their inspiration piece and then they're given about a month and a half to come up and implement their installations," said Renfrew.

Along with enjoying the beautiful flowers, visitors can beautify themselves.

"New this year, we're adding Beautify where we have complimentary up-dos, nail services, makeovers. And we haven't forgotten about the men. The Stallion Station has Stag on-site doing barber services and shoe shining," said Renfrew.

Beauty in Bloom is open daily from 10 am until 5 pm through Sunday, March 29th.

Tickets are $15 for adults and children 12 and under are free.

Each day visitors at the Milwaukee Art Museum can vote for their favorite floral display for the People's Choice Award.
