Gone but never forgotten: Family and friends grieve the loss of 29-year-old man shot on south side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Another violent night in Milwaukee as police investigate four separate shootings. One of them near 20th and Grant, was deadly -- and those who knew the victim are demanding the gunfire to stop.

On a frigid Saturday morning, folks mourn an act that was cold-hearted.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday night, March 27th, Milwaukee police say a 29-year-old man was shot to death near 20th and Grant Street.

Balloons are placed and candles are lit in remembrance of a man known as Reff, who was the light of his friends and families lives.

"Reff is a good guy. I see him every morning going to take his kids and pick them up from school he dropped them off, matter a fact he took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese," said Lucy Grinnage, neighbor.

Residents say the victim was gunned down near the steps of his own home, and collapsed a few houses down where residents believe he was possibly trying to get help.

"He got shot over there and I guess he was trying to come to me because I was the neighbor. It scared the hell out of me. He may have been trying to get help form me because my sons grew up with him," said Grinnage.

Lucy Grinnage struggles with the loss of who she calls her extended family.

"This is a scary moment of my life and I have not slept at all last night," said Grinnage.

Neighbors are still rocked by the deadly violence.

"My daughter called, she heard gunshots and some guy scream he'd got shot and I came running back to her. There was a guy laying there and a few guys seeing if he was okay, and I called 911," said Lenny Randall, neighbor.

As grisly images stained in their minds, the kind hearted memories of the victim still remains in their hearts as they pray for his loved ones and justice.

"I'm hoping whoever shot him they find that person -- I'm going to keep my eyes open," said Grinnage.

Right now, there are no suspects in custody. Police say the circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear at this time.
