April "Gift to the Community:" Free day of transit in four southeast Wisconsin counties

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation are teaming up to bring you Gifts to the Community – unique experiences that highlight the remarkable resources the community has to offer – as we celebrate the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s 100 years of service to the Milwaukee area.

April’s Gift to the Community is a FREE DAY OF TRANSIT throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington and Ozaukee counties!  Rides on transit systems in these four counties will be free on Tuesday, April 28th  during their respective operating hours.

    Milwaukee County Transit System


      Milwaukee Transport Services, Inc. is a quasi-governmental instrumentality of Milwaukee County responsible for the management and operation of the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS).  MCTS is a vital service to the community, connecting 45 million riders each year with jobs, schools, shopping, healthcare and recreation in Milwaukee County.

      Waukesha Metro Transit and Waukesha County Transit


        The City of Waukesha provides Waukesha Metro Transit, which operates 11 routes and paratransit service in the City of Waukesha and surrounding communities, including the Bluemound Road Corridor in the City and Town of Brookfield.

        Waukesha County Transit consists of seven routes, five of which are commuter routes serving many communities throughout Waukesha County with weekday service to downtown Milwaukee.  Some routes also serve the UW-Milwaukee campus.  Local service is available along Bluemound Road in Brookfield.  The system includes paratransit service as well.

        Washington County Commuter Express


          The WCCE provides weekday commuter service on a deluxe motor coach from three park and rides (West Bend, Richfield and Germantown) in Washington County to Wisconsin Avenue in Downtown Milwaukee, Schlitz Park, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, VA Medical Center, Marquette University, Milwaukee County Research Park, and Summit Place (West Allis).  There are several weekday pick-up and drop off times available to choose from, all with on board restroom and free WIFI.

          Washington County Shared Ride Taxi


            The Washington County Shared Ride Taxi Service provides public and specialized shared ride services throughout Washington County.  Specialized service is available for disabled and elderly individuals who require door-to-door assistance from the shared ride operator.  Most rides are scheduled by advance reservation.  A minimum of one day advance notice is suggested for any ride.  Every attempt for same-day ride requests will try to be accommodated but may not be guaranteed.

            West Bend Shared Ride Taxi


              West Bend Shared Ride Taxi provides a shared ride taxi service within the City of West Bend.

              Hartford City Taxi


                The Hartford City Taxi is a curbside shared ride taxi service open to the public.  Deman response service or advance reservations area available.
