FOND DU LAC (WITI) — Fond du Lac fire officials say a dog and a cat died in a fire that caused heavy damage to the interior of a home in the 400 block of Ellis Avenue. That home has been rendered uninhabitable.

It happened just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14th.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire and smoke coming primarily from the rear of the single-family residence. The fire was extinguished, but not before the fire heavily damaged the interior of the structure rendering the home uninhabitable.

There were no reported injuries.

There were two pets; a dog and cat that perished in the fire. The Fond du Lac Humane Society responded to the scene to care for the animals.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by police and fire investigators.
