"We got to stop the violence:" Fatal shooting of Michael Powell may have followed home invasion

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Family members of 18-year-old Michael Powell are trying to figure out what led to his death. Powell was found shot to death inside a home near 29th and Melvina on Tuesday afternoon, April 14th.

Police say a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were taken into custody.

"It just feels like it's not real yet.  It's just not real. It's hard to take in. It's really hard to take in right now," Powell's aunt Ebony Martin said.

Powell's family is devastated over a loss they say they can't understand.

"It's just...it's just crazy," Martin said.

"You know man, it was all a shock," Powell's cousin, Christopher Powell said.

Family members say Powell did not live in the home where he was found dead.

"All I know is that he was shot multiple times in the chest," Christopher Powell said.

Gregory Davis owns the home and was leasing it. He says he heard from his tenant earlier Tuesday afternoon.

"Got a text. Someone broke into the house and his brother reacted. It's just not a good situation. It's very sad," Davis said.

Powell's family members say he wasn't a violent person.

"It's a shame they killed him like that, man. The violence really has to stop," Christopher Powell said.

Family members say there are a lot of unanswered questions.

"Just try and get to the bottom and see what's going on and like I said, bring this to justice," Martin said.

"We got to stop the violence. The victims are getting younger and younger. These are kids. We've got to show the generations something different," Christopher Powell said.

Police are not looking for any additional suspects in this case.

This was the sixth shooting incident to occur in Milwaukee since Sunday, April 12th -- and one of three homicides that occurred on Tuesday.
