Kohl's shoplifter assaults loss prevention officer, faces felony charges

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- A Kohl's shoplifter is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail after fleeing the store with a significant amount of merchandise, and physically assaulting a Kohl's loss prevention officer.

The incident occurred at the Kohl's Department Store located on W. Johnson Street in Fond du Lac on Saturday, April 18th, around 2:50 p.m.

Authorities say they arrived in the area of the store quickly and observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description attempting to flee.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. Police followed the vehicle out of the parking lot and onto adjacent N. Pioneer Road.

However, police say after stopping the shoplifter, a 32-year-old Montello woman, she did not cooperate with any instructions from police. The police were also aware that the woman had just physically assaulted a loss prevention officer and did not know if they were armed or had weapons in the vehicle.

Authorities say after the 32-year-old woman was not going to cooperate, on scene officers formed a shield team who then approached and extracted the woman from the vehicle.

The woman was arrested for a number of offenses, some felony, that include shoplifting, battery, and obstructing law enforcement. She is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and further details will be released with the issuance of the criminal complaint.
