Packers to play Bears on Thanksgiving evening; Brett Favre to return to Lambeau to be honored

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears will meet at Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving evening -- the first Thanksgiving home game for the Pack since 1923! Multiple reports indicate Brett Favre will return to Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving, where he will be honored. The Packers 2015 schedule was officially released on Tuesday evening, April 21st -- and the Pack will open the regular season in Chicago vs. the Bears.

“Going to Chicago is always a big game. Doing it Week 1 with a new (Bears) coaching staff brings some extra challenges, but we’re looking forward to starting off with the oldest rivalry in the National Football League," Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said.

“November-December football is so important, and it’s so critical to your success. Division games are clearly the most important games of the year and the toughest games to play in. Four straight will definitely be a challenging part of our schedule," McCarthy said.

On the Thanksgiving matchup vs. the Bears, McCarthy says: “I think it’s great, and it will be great for our fans, the first time we’ve had a Thanksgiving night game here at Lambeau Field. I think it will definitely be a special night.”

The Thanksgiving evening game is a matchup in which former quarterback Brett Favre will be honored. Favre's jersey number will be displayed on the facade at Lambeau Field in the north end zone. The distinction is that his jersey number will not be retired. The team is doing that during a Packers Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday, July 18th. Favre will be in Green Bay for that ceremony as well. All of this according to FOX6's sister station WLUK in Green Bay. Folks there spoke with Packers sources.
