Police: Suspect exits moving vehicle during pursuit, car strikes second vehicle, woman injured

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say an armed robbery suspect remains on the loose following a pursuit that left a woman injured. Police say during that pursuit, an officer accidentally fired his weapon, but no one was hit.

It happened just before noon on Thursday, April 23rd.

Officers with MPD's Neighborhood Task Force's Fugitive Apprehension Unit located an 18-year-old suspect wanted for an armed robbery and first-degree recklessly endangering safety in a vehicle near N. 39th Street and W. Capitol Drive.

A traffic stop was attempted -- but police say the suspect fled. A pursuit began.

The pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes on Milwaukee's northwest side before returning to the Sherman Park area.

The suspect fled his vehicle as it was still in motion, and the suspect's unoccupied vehicle then hit another car near N. Sherman Boulevard and W. Capitol Drive.

A 50-year-old woman in that other vehicle was injured. It is believed she will be okay.

Officers pursued the suspect on foot and during that foot pursuit, and officer accidentally fired his handgun into the ground. No one was hit.

The suspect eventually got into a vehicle believed to be driven by an associate of his.

Police haven't taken the suspect into custody.
