"Armed and dangerous:" FBI, Milwaukee police ask for your help in search of wanted gunman

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- An attempted armed robbery goes wrong -- and turns into a shooting. Now, the FBI and Milwaukee Police Department are teaming up -- and say they've identified one of the men behind the crime.

DeAngelo Garcia

It was supposed to be an armed robbery of a Bouchard's clothing store in Milwaukee. But the plans of two masked men quickly unraveled when the store's owner tried to protect an employee. After shooting the owner, the masked men fled from the scene. That was back on November 18, 2014.

FBI and Milwaukee police investigators say they have now identified one of the men behind that attempted robbery. His name is DeAngelo Garcia.

"He's clearly armed and dangerous from his previous activity within Bouchard's," said Robert Botsch, Supervisory Special Agent for the FBI.

Garcia is now wanted on a federal arrest warrant. He's from the Milwaukee area and we're told he may still be someplace nearby.

"The Bouchard's shooting was an unusual level of violence from the standpoint that somebody was actually shot inside the store," said Botsch.

That violence and the fact that it happened inside a store involved in interstate commerce is what kicks this case up to the federal level. That means if caught and convicted, Garcia will face at least seven years in prison.

"The use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime carries mandatory minimum sentencing which provides for a greater sentencing exposure than you would get in a normal street robbery," said Botsch.

The masked men fled the store without actually stealing anything. But because of the shooting, they will face charges as if they had succeeded.

Investigators have not yet identified the other man involved in this incident.

If you see Garcia, you're urged to call 911 and point out that he's a wanted person.
