An inside look: Safety day at Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons project site

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's one of the biggest construction sites in Milwaukee history -- and on Thursday, May 7th, FOX6 News got an inside look at it.

The contractors working on Northwestern Mutual's Tower and Commons project held a "safety day" Thursday.

The event featured safety demonstrations, and there was also a short program stressing the importance of and enhancing awareness of safety for the workers on the site.

At least 600 people will work on the project before it is complete.

Currently, about 90 to 100 people are on the job site daily.

"As that flurry of activity grows, the need to be safe intensifies as well and I think this is a perfect place and time on this project for us to have this focus on how to make sure that all of our visions are done in a safe fashion," Northwestern Mutual Vice President Sandy Botcher said.

The Northwestern Mutual Tower project was set to be completed by 2017.
