Report: Man killed in hit-and-run was hit by two vehicles; driver of second vehicle pursued driver who fled

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its report on a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Friday night, May 8th near 13th and Harrison on Milwaukee's south side.

59-year-old Anthony Orosco was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck as he was crossing W. Harrison Street just before 9:00 p.m.

The Medical Examiner's report says Orosco died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries. His death has been ruled an accident.

The report indicates Orosco was walking northbound on the east sidewalk just before 9:00 p.m., when he started to cross the street in the 2600 block of S. 13th Street to the northwest -- in a jaywalking fashion. At that time, a pickup truck, traveling at "an elevated rate of speed," according to witnesses, struck Orosco and he was ejected through the air. Another vehicle hit Orosco after he came to rest in the road.

The initial striking vehicle fled the scene, but was pursued by the driver of the second vehicle that hit Orosco, the report says.

Milwaukee police officers caught up with the pickup truck at S. 27th Street and W. Cleveland Avenue.

The report indicates the pickup truck's driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of OWI causing death.

The driver of the second vehicle that struck Orosco cooperated with the investigation, the report says.

Police have not yet identified the driver of the truck -- but say charges against him will be brought to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office this week.
