Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, the most revered acting team in American theatre history. Created with the same wit and passion for perfection that distinguished their stage performances, Ten Chimneys is the Lunts’ most enduring and tangible legacy. Often considered “the center of the theatrical world,” luminaries such as Helen Hayes, Noël Coward, and Laurence Olivier, were all frequent and devoted Ten Chimneys guests. The estate, almost inevitably, became an important place for artistic creation and discussion. Today, Ten Chimneys is open to the public as an inspirational house museum and theatre resource. Those who visit, like guests of the Lunts, are welcomed into the Lunts’ extraordinary home without the fuss of ropes or barriers. Almost all of Ten Chimneys’ historic furnishings, hand-painted murals, enchantingly personal décor, and diverse collections are intact and unchanged since the Lunts first assembled them. Tours of Ten Chimneys not only celebrate the one-of-a-kind collection the Lunts amassed during their lifetimes, but also honor the values found in every corner of the Lunts’ lives, both on the stage and in the house they called home for more than half a century.
