You can now drop off your unused, unwanted prescription drugs at West Bend Police Department

WEST BEND (WITI) -- West Bend police say you can now drop off your unwanted and unused prescription drugs at the West Bend Police Department -- located at 350 Vine Street in West Bend.

On Monday, May 18th, the West Bend Common Council accepted a donation of a Medical Collection Box from CVS Pharmacy and the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids.

The Medical Collection Box will be placed in the lobby of the West Bend Police Department at 350 Vine Street in West Bend.

Residents are encouraged to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs and over the counter medications in the Medical Collection Box.

The West Bend Police Department will accept the following items in the Medical Collection Box: Prescription and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications.  Pills in solid form and other non-liquid medication(s) should be removed from their original container and placed in a clear sealable plastic bag for disposal.  Blister packages will be accepted without the medications being removed.  Liquid medications must be in their original container.

Citizens may remain anonymous when they dispose of all the above items at the West Bend Police Department. Citizens will not be charged a fee to dispose of these unwanted/unused prescription drugs.

The medications which are collected will be disposed of through the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Pharmaceutical Take-Back Initiative.

The Police Department will NOT accept the following items in the Medical Collection Box: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, inhalers, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), mercury thermometers, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc...), or household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas).
