“We are very proud:" Mequon MIDDLE SCHOOLER receives perfect score on ACT exam

MEQUON — Julian Camacho, an eighth-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School, recently received a perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT exam. He also received perfect scores of 36 on each of the exam’s four subsections, which include English, reading, mathematics and science.

Camacho took the exam in April as a participant in the Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS). The program identifies academic ability, measures growth and connects advanced students to resources and opportunities. It also allows students the opportunity to take internationally recognized tests before the grade levels at which they are typically administered.

“We are very proud of Julian and this outstanding accomplishment he has made at a very young age,” said Robin Schlei, Gifted and Talented Coordinator for the Mequon-Thiensville School District. “His perfect score on the ACT exam is a reflection not only of his intelligence and unique talents, but also of his hard work and dedication. This is a remarkable accomplishment for a student who hasn’t even entered high school yet.”

Camacho’s parents, Dan Camacho and Linda Lee, have expressed their gratitude to Schlei and the school district for helping their son grow both socially and academically. This is the first time the district has had a middle school student score perfectly on the ACT through NUMATS, although several high school students have received scores of 36 in the past.

The ACT is a college preparatory exam usually taken by juniors and seniors at the high school level. In 2013-2014, MTSD students achieved an average ACT score of 26, outpacing the state average of 22.1.
