Folks enjoy a perfect summer day at Wauwautosa's 81st Annual Independence Day Parade

WAUWATOSA -- It was perfect weather to take in a parade or two on the 4th of July holiday. Cities across southeast Wisconsin celebrated the holiday. But Wauwatosa's 81st Annual Independence Day Parade featured a presidential hopeful and then some.

Drexel and Charlotte Hansen cheered on the Wauwatosa 4th of July Parade for their 50th time. The pair's first was in 1965.

"We're very fortunate to have our health and the children all have theirs," said Drexel Hansen.

And their children's children. In fact, four generations of the Hansen family were able to make the trip into the Menomonee Valley.

"They are here from Minnesota, Michigan, Green Bay, La Crosse, Plymouth, Racine," Drexel.

This may be the Drexel and Charlotte's golden parade.

Also in attendance was Governor Scott Walker, who aims to be the country's 45th president.

"For us, this is nice because this is home. It's an honor to be out here and enjoy the Fourth, spend some time with family and friends but really recognize the importance of this celebration," said Walker.

Thousands were able to do so, and plan to keep on doing for years and years to come.

"God willing we'll be here," said Charlotte.
