18-year-old Milwaukee man drowns at campground in southwestern Wisconsin

BELMONT — Authorities say an 18-year-old Milwaukee man has drowned at a campground on Lake Joy in southwestern Wisconsin.

Lafayette County authorities say they were dispatched to the Lake Joy Campground around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11th for a report of a missing swimmer.

Rescue crews began searching for the teen using boats that were on scene when they arrived.

At approximately 10:57 a.m., the body of 18-year-old Sidney Yera Jr. was discovered in the swimming area where he was last seen.

The sheriff's office says there doesn't appear to have been any criminal activity involved in Yera's death as the drowning was witnessed by family and friends.

The Lafayette County Coroner's Office and the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation and an autopsy will be conducted.
