"We're fired up:" U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds eager to put on a show for you

MILWAUKEE -- Organizers say the 2015 edition of the Milwaukee Air & Water Show is shaping up to the best in the show's seven-year history. That is in large part because of its headliners which include the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds have not been in Milwaukee for four years. But when they roar up Milwaukee's lakefront on Saturday and Sunday, they will excite thousands who came to see them.

"Very excited to be back. It's a great opportunity and a heck of a show. We're fired up," said Capt. Alex Goldfein, Thunderbird pilot.

So too will be the crowd -- as four to six jets fly just overhead.

"You'll see the solos doing some opposing passes nice and close, all four jets crossing at the same time. So hopefully, some really neat stuff out there over the water," said Goldfein.

This is Goldfein's first performance season with the Thunderbirds.

"It has been a dream come true and I truly enjoy the job," said Goldfein.

But perhaps the best part is meeting the fans on the ground.

"It's an honor to get to meet some of these people that have done tremendous things," said Goldfein.

Curtis Overholt is one of those eager to see the Thunderbirds soar. He was a World War II pilot on D-Day. Now 95 years old, Overholt has the opportunity to be up close with the Thunderbirds -- thanks to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.

"Well, it's thrilling because they are that much bigger than planes that we flew," said Overholt. "I'm so thankful that we've got them to take care of the job that they're doing."
