MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police arrested a convicted felon for armed robbery after the victim of the crime found the suspect asleep in the victim’s stolen car.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, went to District Five around 4:15 a.m. on July 25 to report his car had been stolen from the 2600 block of N. Pierce Street earlier that morning. Just before 9:00 a.m., squads responded to the 2600 block of N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, for a report of a battery.

The same victim told officers he located his stolen vehicle in the 2600 block of N. 6th Street and saw a man sleeping in the driver’s seat. He attempted to take the car back from the suspect, but the suspect struck the victim’s finger with a knife and then fled from the scene in the car.

Around 1:30 p.m. that same day, District Five officers were sent to the 2600 block of N. 4th Street for a report of a suspicious person. Officers found the suspect unloading a bag from the victim’s stolen car. The suspect fled from the scene on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

The suspect, a 53-year-old Milwaukee man, is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1981.
