With hotel rooms booked, homeowners in Sheboygan Co. renting homes ahead of PGA Championship

SHEBOYGAN — Hospitality industry leaders say Sheboygan County's 1,800 hotel rooms were booked a year or more in advance for next week's PGA Championship in Kohler.

That's has many homeowners in the area taking advantage of the demand for a place to stay during PGA week at Whistling Straits. Homeowners are using web sites such as airbnb to offer rooms or even the whole house.

Random Lake resident Chad Hoftender says he'll be on vacation during the PGA Championship, so he decided to list his three-bedroom house so tournament attendees can stay a little closer to the action. Hoftender says he'll remove valuables and lock certain rooms.

Sheboygan Press Media says homeowners are pricing rooms from $130 a night to $425 a night. The four-day tournament begins Aug. 13.
