Neighbor discovers 67-year-old man accidentally shot in chest; victim taken to hospital via Flight for Life

PLEASANT PRAIRIE -- Pleasant Prairie police say a man had to be taken to the hospital via Flight for Life following an accidental shooting that occurred on Thursday morning, August 27th.

It happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 11400 block of 22nd Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 67-year-old man who lives at the home had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim told officers that he was operating a utility vehicle at dusk Wednesday evening hunting for coyotes while armed with a shotgun when the vehicle struck a tree and the gun accidentally discharged, striking him in the chest.

The victim was found lying next to the utility vehicle, unable to summon help throughout the night.

It wasn’t until just before 6:30 a.m. that a neighbor discovered the victim and called 911.

The victim was transported by Pleasant Prairie Rescue to Kenosha Hospital then flown to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family. His injuries are considered serious -- but he is expected to survive.
