Officials: Oshkosh Corp. $6.7B military contract will have ripple effect across the state

OSHKOSH — Leaders in Oshkosh say a lucrative military contract will have a ripple effect across Wisconsin.

Oshkosh Northwestern Media reports executives with Oshkosh Corp. along with state and local officials Wednesday, August 26th hailed a $6.7 billion Army contract awarded to build the Humvee's replacement.

The award means Wisconsin-based Oshkosh will produce about 17,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles for the Army and Marines. Options for further contracts could push the total value to around $30 billion.

Oshkosh Corporation CEO Charlie Szews says the contract means business for "hundreds" of Wisconsin companies that supply the defense contractor.

Mayor Steve Cummings said the award would help attract young talent as the company seeks to hire workers such as engineers.

Oshkosh Defense beat out Maryland-based Lockheed Martin and Indiana-based AM General for the contract.
