Back to school: Safety officials urge drivers to watch for children on the way to class

GREEN BAY — Children across Wisconsin are heading back to school.

Public safety officials are reminding motorists to be on the lookout for children boarding or exiting school buses. Figures from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation show there were nearly 800 citations given to drivers last year for failing to stop for a school bus.

Lamers Bus Lines' Dave Vander Bloomen says drivers should give themselves extra time, especially the first two or three weeks that school is in session. Then motorists won't feel rushed and take chances just to get to work or drop off a child.
