26-year-old Milwaukee woman arrested for OWI after trooper smells marijuana coming from vehicle

RACINE COUNTY -- Wisconsin State Patrol officials say a 26-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on Monday evening, August 31st for OWI - first offense with two children in her vehicle.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m., a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper on routine patrol stopped a vehicle for excessive window tint on I-94 westbound in Racine County.

Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the trooper detected the smell of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle.

The vehicle was occupied by two adults and two children (ages eight and 13).

Based on this observation, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, marijuana and open intoxicants were located in the vehicle.

The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Subsequent to the arrest, the driver of the vehicle admitted that she had recently smoked marijuana. Based on this admission, standard field sobriety tests were conducted.

The driver is being charged with OWI-drugged first offense with juveniles under 16 in the vehicle, failure to fasten seatbelt and excessive window tint.

The driver consented to a legal blood draw which was conducted at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Franklin.
