Town of Merton home damaged following fire; cause under investigation

TOWN MERTON -- The Merton Fire Department and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a house fire in the Town of Merton Friday morning, September 11th.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. at a home on Center Oak Road.

Officials say the fire was first observed by a neighbor who alerted the Waukesha County Communications Center. Additional assistance was requested from the Village of Sussex, Town of Lisbon, North Lake, Town of Delafield, and Hartland Fire Departments.

The two homeowners had already left residence prior to the fire. Upon initial arrival, a Deputy was advised that there were two dogs trapped inside the residence. The deputy knocked out a first floor window and brought the two dogs to safety.

The fire caused property damage to the residence, attached garage, and vehicles parked in the garage.

After the fire was extinguished, Fire Department Command did request fire investigation from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.

The initial cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
