Special needs student found dead inside California school bus

WHITTIER, CA -- California police are investigating the death of 19-year-old special needs student who was found dead on a school bus on Friday, September 11th.

According to KTLA, the boy was picked up Friday morning by a bus, operated by "Pupil Transportation," to attend Sierra Vista Adult School.

The boy failed to return home by 4 p.m. and his mother called the school, which contacted the bus company. A driver went out to check the bus and found the teen lying in the aisle, police said.

Police say bystanders and medics tried to revive the 19-year-old boy, but he did not survive.

Now, authorities are investigating how the boy died. It is unclear how long the boy had been on the bus, but police are looking into the possibility that he may have been left on the bus all day after reports he never got off at school.

Police did question the bus driver, but he was later released.
