Green Bay Packers take home 31-23 win against Chicago Bears

CHICAGO -- Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns, two to James Jones, and the Green Bay Packers beat Chicago 31-23 to spoil John Fox's debut as Bears coach Sunday afternoon.

The Packers got all they could handle from the rebuilding Bears, but took control down the stretch to beat them for the 10th time in 11 games, including the postseason.

Rodgers improved to 13-3 lifetime against Chicago. The 2014 MVP completed 18 of 23 passes for 189 yards.

Jones, who spent seven seasons in Green Bay before signing with Oakland last year, caught four passes for 51 yards. That included a one-handed grab on a 13-yard score late in the first quarter and a 1-yard TD in the third — a good start after being released by the Raiders in the spring and by the Giants on the final roster cut.

The Bears were first to score on the day when they capped a drive with a 28-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead over the green and gold.

The Packers returned the favor a short time later. With Chicago's Alan Ball draped all over him, James Jones jumped and trapped Rodgers' 13-yard pass against his chest with his left arm and held on as he tumbled to the turf. The score was 7-3 Packers at that point.

On the next Bears drive, Chicago drove 80 yards in 15 plays. Running back Matt Forte punched it in from one yard to give the Bears a 10-7 lead over the Packers in the 2nd quarter.

The Packers took their next drive down the field. But penalties forced Green Bay to kick a field goal. The game was tied at 10-10.

The Bears were last to score in the first half -- when Robbie Gould punched a 50-yard field goal through the uprights. Chicago led at the half, 13-10.

After halftime, the Packers came back with a touchdown throw to James Jones to lead the Bears 17-13 in the third quarter.

With less than five minutes on the clock in the third quarter, the Bears scored a 44-yard field goal to tighten the score, 17-16.

During the fourth quarter, QB Aaron Rodgers passed to Randall Cobb scoring, followed by kicker Mason Crosby for the field-goal point. Packers lead the Bears 24-16 with less than 10 minutes in the fourth.

With just about two minutes left in the fourth, Eddie Lacy rushed in for a touchdown and Crosby with the extra point for a score of 31-16.

The Bears came back with a 24-yard pass for a touchdown, but with only 34 seconds left in the game, Packers keep the lead 31-23.

Green Bay was able to take a knee and take home the winning score, 31-23.
