Attention iPhone users: Get ready for a big software update today

MILWAUKEE -- Apple's newest mobile operating system, iOS 9, is available to download today.

iOS 9 features many upgrades for iPhone iPad, and iPod Touch users.

Siri is getting a lot smarter. Now, when you swipe right on on your home page you will get suggestions; a listing of people to call, apps to launch, nearby places, and news you may be interested in.

Double tap your home button when your phone is asleep to bring up Apple Pay and your store loyalty cards. You can also store boarding passes, movie tickets, and coupons as well.

One of our favorite features is the low power mode. By turning this on you are asking your phone to save battery life while you continue to use it. Your device does this by checking your mail less often and not refreshing apps as frequently. Apple says that low power mode can add as much as an extra hour of battery life to your device.

You can download iOS 9 through your device in Settings, General, Software Update. You can also use iTunes to download and update your device. Simply plug it into your computer and launch iTunes. You should get a notification to update.

Before you update, be sure to back up your device properly.
