Police: Shoplifter flees police and causes fiery wreck, she's now on the run

BROWN DEER -- Brown Deer police are searching for a shoplifting suspect that ended up causing a fiery wreck at Sherman Blvd. and Bradley Rd. on Thursday afternoon, September 17th.

Officers were dispatched to the Burlington Coat Factory on Green Bay Rd. in Brown Deer around 2:40 p.m. for a report of a woman shoplifting clothes. When officers got to the area, the suspect's vehicle was located heading north on N. Deerbrook Tr. It eventually went south on Green Bay Rd. and continued to Teutonia Ave.

Officials say the suspect vehicle fled police at a high rate of speed, ran a red traffic signal at Sherman and Bradley and struck a second vehicle. After the crash, that second vehicle started on fire.

The driver of the second car, a 26-year-old Milwaukee man, was able to get himself out of the vehicle. His hair was scorched and he suffered very minor cuts and scrapes. The North Shore Fire Department evaluated the man, but he chose not to go to a hospital.

The shoplifting suspect was able to drive away from the crash scene -- and then abandoned her vehicle near Sherman and Calumet. She ran from the vehicle -- and police located the car.

Police say the suspect is described as a female, black, 5'5" tall, 180 pounds with black hair and purple highlights. She was wearing a black and white jump suit with multi-colored chevrons on it.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Brown Deer police at 414-351-9900.
