"A lot of chaos:" Multiple-vehicle crash shuts down Brown Deer Road near Range Line

RIVER HILLS -- The eastbound lanes of Brown Deer Road were temporarily shut down at Range Line Rd. in River Hills on Friday morning, September 18th after a multiple vehicle crash involving a rolled over semi and truck.

People driving along Brown Deer Road couldn't believe what they saw.

"I've been in the military, I've seen some bad accidents but I've never seen anything like that," said onlooker, Don Wuerl.

River Hills Police officials say the crash began when a dumpster truck driving westbound on Brown Deer Road approached the stop light at Range Line Road around 8:30 a.m.

"The vehicle didn't slow for the red light, struck a northbound vehicle on Range Line Road in the intersection, and then lost control of the vehicle crossed over the median strips and then struck an eastbound car," said River Hills Police Chief Todd Cowie.

The dump truck then hit the tanker truck which rolled over on its side. This caused major backups during the morning commute as the eastbound lanes in the 3000 block of Brown Deer Road, were closed down.

"It was a lot of chaos. This is a major intersection in the county," said Chief Cowie.

Officials say three people were transported from the crash scene. All suffered minor injuries.

"There were three patients transported to the hospital the driver of the dumpster truck and then the drivers of the individual vehicles that were struck," said Chief Cowie.

Crews were on the scene for hours cleaning up the mess and using heavy machinery to flip the tanker truck upright.Luckily, the tanker truck was empty so no residents or first responders were in any danger.

River Hills Police officials say the crash is still under investigation and they're not sure if any charges will be filed.
