"This is a one stop shop:" Staff members show off recently renovated Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center

MILWAUKEE -- Hundreds on Sunday, September 27th attended an open house at the recently renovated Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center. It was an effort to show off updates to the facility -- and get residents thinking about their health.

Before the event began on Sunday morning, folks were already lined up to get a first look at the renovated facility.

Anthony Childs was on hand to get a flu shot.

"Just doing preventative health for myself," Anthony Childs said.

Health screenings were made available at the health center as folks took a look at changes made inside.

"We got some new furniture, new floors. We got some new providers," Pamela Clark with Milwaukee Health Services said.

Staff members wanted to make the health center more inviting and appealing to encourage residents to come in and get the care they need.

"It`s pretty nice!" Atlantica Phillips said.

"It`s really exciting for us," Clark said. "Today the services we are providing is blood pressure checks, glucose, flu shots. We are doing mammograms today, pap smears, (checking) for high blood pressure, glucose checks, HIV testing that is free. We even have a podiatrist here."

"This is a one stop shop. We offer a lot!" Clark said.

Staff members hope to make a lasting impact on the health of Milwaukee residents -- and this facility should help in that effort.

"We have our benefit specialist who will be on board and can set people up to have insurance -- because open enrollment starts November 1st. A lot of people don`t have health care providers. We want people to know -- yes we are open. We are here," Phillips said.

Award-winning comedian and actor Cedric "The Entertainer" was also at Sunday's event.

Organizers say the hope was he would draw more people to the event and encourage them to make their health a priority.
