"To just cherish that they survived:" Family, friends gather to raise money for couple hurt in crash

SLINGER/ST. GERMAIN/BROOKFIELD -- There was quite the turnout Sunday morning, September 27th to help a Slinger couple seriously injured in a crash up north.

It happened in August.

The Roark family swerved to avoid a deer in Saint Germain and their vehicle ended up rolling over.

Both Rick and Shannon Roark have serious injuries, and it will be awhile before they can get back to work -- so friends and family members helped organize a fundraiser at Pistol Pete's in Brookfield to raise money for their medical bills.

Local caterer "Dine with the Swine" donated their time for the event.

"It's just family and friends and whoever is willing to help to get together and just cherish that they both survived," Christine Berens, the victims' mother said.

"You know what? These are great people and it's the whole Wisconsin thing. If we can help out our community we're going to do it," Jason Nieder with Dine with Swine said.
