Former Culver's franchisee accusing the company of discrimination -- but why?

SOUTH CHICAGO -- A former Culver's franchisee is accusing the company of discrimination.

Michael Wilbern said he tried for nine years to get permission to open a Culver's restaurant on Chicago's south side.

He was eventually approved for a restaurant in Franklin Park, but the lawsuit says that failed because the costs of running that restaurant were higher than they would have been on Chicago's south side.

Officials with the Culver Franchising System have denied the charges, and say they look forward to responding in court. They say they feel confident Culver's will be exonerated.
