MFD also announced a new expanded campaign to get working smoke detectors in every home in Milwaukee.

MFD Chief Mark Rohlfing says firefighters will soon be knocking on every door in the city, and he had a very important message for the kids:

"What I want to ask you guys to do is when you see a firefighter or fire truck in your neighborhood, will you go up and say hi? Tell them 'hi,' and say 'thanks' and 'come to my house and check my smoke detector okay?'" Chief Rohlfing said.

Chief Rohlfing says over the last five years, there have been 38 fire deaths in Milwaukee, and only six of those had working smoke detectors.
