Total loss: Fire at home in Town of West Bend leads to $275K in damage

WEST BEND -- Fire crews responded to the scene of a house fire in the Town of West Bend Sunday, night, October 4th.  It happened at a home on George Court around 10 p.m.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located a single-family residence that had flames coming from the roof near the chimney.  Neighbors reported seeing flames coming out of the chimney prior to deputies arriving on scene.

Residents of the home were notified by neighbors of the fire and all got out safely.

West Bend Fire and Rescue responded and they were assisted by Allenton, Slinger, Jackson, Kewaskum, Newburg, Boltonville, Fillmore and Kohlsville Fire Departments. George Court had restricted access for approximately two hours while the fire was extinguished by fire and rescue crews.

The house was a total loss and the initial estimate of damage for the building was $275,000.

The investigation conducted by Washington County Sheriff’s Office and West Bend Fire Department shows that the fire originated in the fire chase around the chimney and was accidental in nature.
