Charged: 19-year-old Dalvin Golden accused in stabbing death of Kiante Kelly, city's 115th homicide

MILWAUKEE -- Charges have now been filed in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred on Saturday, October 3rd near 61st and Forest Home Avenue -- the city's 115th homicide this year.

The accused is 19-year-old Dalvin Golden of Milwaukee. He is facing one felony charge of second degree reckless homicide in the death of Kiante Kelly.

On Saturday, October 3rd, Milwaukee police officers were dispatched to the area of 61st and Forest Home Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed Kelly lying face down in an apartment unit -- with a single stab wound to the lower right hip area.

When he was rolled over, an officer observed a second stab wound to the center of his chest.

Dalvin Golden was found lying near the door to the apartment.

Both Golden and Kelly received medical treatment on scene -- but Kelly succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, which indicated Kelly died as a result of multiple sharp force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The complaint indicates officers spoke with a woman who indicated she was in the living room of her apartment when she heard screaming. When she opened the door to her apartment, she indicated she saw Golden lying on the ground -- yelling that someone had shot his fiance. When the woman approached the apartment, she saw a second man lying on the ground, bleeding. The woman told investigators she did not hear any arguing, yelling or gunshots prior to the incident.

According to the complaint, Golden initially refused to communicate with officers, and appeared to be pretending as though he was sleeping or unconscious before rolling over and moaning. The complaint says MFD personnel indicated Golden was breathing normally and appeared to be faking symptoms of medical distress.

When an officer did speak with Golden, he indicated that after falling asleep at the apartment, he woke up to the sounds of Kelly calling out for help. He then said he got up and saw Kelly fall to the ground. Golden said he was then attacked by a white male wearing a gray skull cap, according to the complaint.

Later, the complaint says Golden initially repeated that story -- but then changed his story -- saying there was no intruder, but rather, this was a domestic dispute. During the dispute, Golden said Kelly brandished a knife.

Golden said he was able to disarm Kelly, but during the struggle, Kelly was stabbed.

The complaint says Golden told officials Kelly attempted to leave the apartment after he was stabbed, but Golden wouldn't turn over his car keys. After a few minutes, Golden said Kelly tried to attack him again -- and that's when Golden said he took the knife and stabbed Kelly several times.

Golden said he then fled the apartment and discarded the knife.

Golden then re-entered the home, cleaned his wounds, and laid next to Kelly until Kelly stopped talking. Then, Golden went to get help, according to the complaint.

In a subsequent interview, the complaint says Golden acknowledged Kelly never possessed the knife, and that Golden had been the one to introduce the knife into this dispute.

Golden said while Kelly was lying on his stomach on the ground after the initial stabbing, Golden stabbed Kelly in the back several more times. He then discarded the knife before returning to the apartment.
