5th "X-Men Annual Walkathon" educates drivers about the dangers of distracted driving

MILWAUKEE -- A young boy is paralyzed from the chest down after he was hit by a distracted driver in 2010. Now, at just 10-years-old, Xzavier Davis-Bilbo, his family and the Milwaukee community are trying to make sure that doesn't happen to anyone else.

Saturday, October 10th, Xzavier and others went around the neighborhood near 10th and North in hopes of educating drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.

The participants of the "X-Men Annual Walkathon" travel beside Xzavier who has a motorized wheelchair for a 10-block radius.

The goal of the walk is to inform more Milwaukee residents of the dangers of distracted driving.

"The young lady who hit X, literally in two seconds, changed everything for us. We spent 4 1/2 months in the ICU, 9 surgeries -- and where she left X was on life support and in a chair, paralyzed from the diaphragm down," said Valetta Bradford, Xzavier's mother.

This is the fifth year this event has been held. Since the crash, Xzavier's mom has become a national advocate, speaking out against distracted driving.
