Season 2 of "Manhattan:" One of the show's successes is maintaining scientific integrity

MILWAUKEE -- Set against the backdrop of the greatest race against time in the history of science -- the mission to build the world's first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, N.M. -- WGN America's "Manhattan" follows the project's brilliant but flawed scientists and their families as they attempt to co-exist in a world where secrets and lies infiltrate every aspect of their lives.

One of the show's many successes is maintaining scientific integrity. In order to tell a story with such historical significance, producers brought on physicist Dr. David Saltzberg and historical consultant Dr. Alex Wellerstein.

"The nice thing about being the science consultant is I just need to tell the writers what's correct and what the whole truth is," said Dr. Saltzberg. "It's their job to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and where they don't have to tell the whole truth."

"I try to give them options for what the world would have looked like," said Dr. Wellerstein. "It's not the world that did happen, but where were the places were people and decisions could have gone in different directions but not be completely ridiculous."

Season 2 of "Manhattan" kicks off on WGN America at 8 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 13th.
