WAUWATOSA -- On Sunday, October 25th, Halloween was still about a week away, but in Wauwatosa, it was time for Trick-or-Treat. The city of Wauwatosa has a tradition of scheduling Trick-or-Treat the Sunday before Halloween, but with the holiday falling on a Saturday this year, some were left a little unprepared!

"We`ve got kids from two years old up to nine years old. and I think every door bell they get to ring is exciting," Eric O'Sullivan said.

But in some neighborhoods in Wauwatosa Sunday, the words "Trick-or-Treat" sparked confusion.

"What's going on? Is this kind of a dress rehearsal for next week?" Kurt Zaeske said.

Zaeske wasn't expecting the princesses, superheroes and monsters to approach him for goodies for another week. But then he began to process what he was seeing.

"It can't be -- because Saturday is the 31st, so Trick-or-Treat must be next Saturday. And I all of a sudden realized -- yes it is Trick-or-Treat and I felt horrible," Zaeske said.

Zaeske quickly went to the store to grab some candy.

The good news for Trick-or-Treaters Sunday in Wauwatosa was that it was a great fall day -- perfect conditions for being outside.

"It`s worked out really well for us to have the flexibility of going this weekend or next weekend or both. Some of us have plans. Some of us have other parents that we need to contend with,"

Kids crawled all over the city Sunday for three hours.

The Wauwatosa Police Department had extra squads out to make sure everyone stayed safe.

Sunday was the citywide Trick-or-Treat event, but a lot of the neighborhood associations will hold their own Trick-or-Treat events next weekend on Halloween.

In Thiensville Sunday, food was being collected as the Thiensville Fire Department held its second annual "Truck or Treat, so people can eat" event during the village's scheduled trick-or-treat time.

Members of the fire department weren't only handing out candy to kids from their fire trucks, but they were also collecting non-perishable food items for local food pantries.
