Wide receiver James Jones on the undefeated Packers: "This team has all the tools to win the Super Bowl"

MILWAUKEE -- James Jones is committed to helping the Green Bay Packers get back to the NFL "promised land," but as much as he loves football and what it provides for his family, the game doesn't begin to define him.

There was no Packers game on Sunday, October 25th due to the bye week -- so how did Jones spend the day?

"On a couch after church at 8 o'clock. My little son's a big football fan, so he'll finally get to sit on Sunday watching football with Daddy all day," Jones said.

Jones' old friend Donald Driver has said it, and so has Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy: Playing professional football is like being in a car wash every Sunday.

"Bye week came at the right time -- giving us time to heal up and go into this long stretch and hopefully ride all the way into the Super Bowl," Jones said.

Fans flocked to Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin this past Saturday, October 24th to see Jones.

His return to Titletown after being unceremoniously cut by the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders is one of this season's top feel-good stories.

But Jones says he's not happy that it took an injury to his close friend Jordy Nelson to give him the chance to wear green and gold again.

"Jordy's my guy. He's in there rehabbing extremely hard. He's still a leader in that locker room and on that team. I want to go out there and perform well for him," Jones said.

And Jones wants to help bring Packers Nation a Super Bowl berth. His feeling is why not?

"I feel this team has all the tools to win the Super Bowl. I was a part of the 2010 team, and I feel that this team has a lot of the traits that the team has, so we got a shot -- but we still gotta take it one game at a time," Jones said.

Jones' visit to Froedtert Saturday was part of a free community open house for the Center for Advanced Care. Jones spent some time with a patient named Bob.

"It was awesome, man. Bob was in really good spirits. He was about to go out there and play some basketball and stuff with the kids. It was just good to see him and see how upbeat he was and all these victories. He's upbeat and having a good time," Jones said.

Jones has never forgotten that he was homeless for a time as a youngster. He's been humble, grounded and giving to charitable causes since he came to the Packers the first time as a third-round draft pick out of San Jose State in 2007. Those strong character traits are a big part of his DNA as the strong hands that have hauled in six touchdown passes in six games.

Jones once said he feels God blessed him in making it to the NFL so that he can do things like help the homeless.
