Kenosha police: Driver arrested for OWI after three-year-old girl struck near elementary school

KENOSHA -- Kenosha police say a three-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon, October 29th -- and a driver was arrested for OWI.

It happened near Curtis Strange Elementary School around 3:00 p.m.

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle, a 33-year-old Kenosha woman, was arrested for OWI - first offense, accused of smoking marijuana earlier in the day.

The three-year-old girl was taken to the hospital, and it is believed she will survive. We're told she suffered scrapes and bruising, a cut to her mouth and a scrape on her abdomen.

The child was with her mother when this incident happened, police say. We're told the mother had let the child out of her vehicle, and lost track of the child, who then darted into traffic.

Police say the driver who hit the child did stay at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
