Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca says Rep. Zepnick regrets drunken driving incident

MADISON — The Democratic leader in the Wisconsin Assembly says a southeastern Wisconsin lawmaker arrested for drunken driving regrets his action and is taking responsibility for his actions.

Rep. Josh Zepnick was arrested Thursday night, October 29th in Greenfield. Zepnick told police he had five or six beers. He failed field sobriety tests but refused to take a breath test.

Zepnick's sister was struck and killed by a repeat-offense drunken driver while riding her bicycle in Greenfield in 1990.

Democratic Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca said at a news conference Tuesday, November 3rd that Zepnick genuinely cares about cracking down on drunken driving, and he is seeking treatment following the arrest.

Barca says it's up to Zepnick as to whether he continues running for the Milwaukee Common Council.

Zepnick was present for Tuesday's Assembly session.
