One killed, one arrested following two-vehicle crash in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT -- South Shore Fire officials tell FOX6 News a man is dead following a crash in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday night, November 4th. A 23-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the crash.

Mount Pleasant police officers were dispatched to the area of State Highway 31 (Green Bay Road) and 16th Street in the Village of Mount Pleasant shortly after 8:00 p.m. for a report of an accident. It was initially reported that it was a possible three-car crash that was head-on.

When officers arrived on scene, they quickly determined that it was only a two-car crash between a Dodge Neon and a SAAB Sport Utility Vehicle. The Dodge Neon had two male occupants, one driver and one front passenger, and the SAAB had one male driver.

Officers discovered that the passenger in the Neon was deceased at the scene due to the crash.

The driver of the Neon was transported to the emergency room at the Wheaton Franciscan Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The Wisconsin State Patrol Traffic Reconstruction Unit was contacted to respond to that location to assist Mount Pleasant Police with the ongoing Investigation.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that alcohol was a factor for the driver of the Neon.

The Neon was traveling westbound on State Highway 31/South Green Bay Road when it failed to yield while performing a left turn. The SAAB was northbound and due to the failure to yield by the Neon a collision occurred and upon impact, the passenger lost his life.

The name of that passenger will be released at a later date.

The driver of the Neon was arrested and charged.  He was treated for his injuries and later transported to the Racine County Jail where he was held on the below charges.

This matter is now being handled by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office. The man is being held at the Racine County Jail on $51,400 Bail.
