MILWAUKEE -- Thousands headed to downtown Milwaukee on Saturday morning, November 7th to honor our veterans at the 2015 Veterans Day Parade.

Milwaukee marched on this year for the 52nd annual event.

"It's an emotional and spiritual day," said Nick Kissinger, Iraqi veteran.

So many came out to honor those who fought so bravely for our country.

"I'm really proud of all our soldiers," said a parade goer.

Each spectator payed tribute as well as any patriot could.

"What better way to thank all these gentleman and ladies for what they do for our country," said Jim Beyer, parade goer.

Nick Greif served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says the display of patriotism at the parade is an honor.

"It's kind of surreal. I didn't do this, my service, to get all the applause and attention and thanking me. I appreciate it every time they thank me -- although it feels a little uncomfortable," said Greif.

Alan Lewis also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He lost both of his legs while overseas. Saturday, he sits alongside his son and this year's grand marshall.

"It makes me feel proud, it makes me feel appreciated. Just so much sacrifice that me and my guys have done and to be honored here today, and for me to represent these guys is an honor," said Grand Marshall and veteran, Alan Lewis.

More than 1,000 veterans and military marched in the parade from all over southeastern Wisconsin. It's main event almost didn't happen until Matthew Stubbs and TransCanada stepped in with a $20,000 donation.

"It's just the right thing to do," said Matthew Stubbs, TransCanada Pipeline.

The parade ended at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center on the lakefront where there was a ceremony and a military flyover.
