GOP Milwaukee debate: Eight candidates from large Republican field hope they'll get attention

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Theatre plays host to the fourth GOP presidential debate on Tuesday evening, November 10th.  For the first time this cycle, Tuesday’s prime-time Republican debate in Milwaukee will feature just eight candidates from the unusually large field. Hosted by Fox Business and the Wall Street Journal, it comes as some candidates are facing growing scrutiny from both their rivals and the media.

Tuesday evening will also mark the first time the GOP contenders for president will be back together following last month’s CNBC debate, which ended up with the candidates and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus attacking the network and moderators and a short-lived rebellion by the various campaigns.

Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio

Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio hosted events in southeastern Wisconsin on Monday -- ahead of the GOP presidential debate. Bush spoke at a Hispanic charter school in Waukesha, and Rubio held a rally for supporters in Pewaukee, and then a fundraiser for Wisconsin Republicans.

Governor Scott Walker joined Bush and Rubio for their Wisconsin events -- though he is not endorsing a candidate for president at this time.

On Tuesday morning, Rand Paul hosted a 'School Choice Roundtable' in Milwaukee -- just hours prior to the debate.

"I`m hoping after this that the rest of them will drop out and just let me be the nominee. It may not be quite that easy," Paul said ahead of the debate.

Candidates did "walk-throughs" at the Milwaukee Theatre earlier Tuesday.

Ben Carson, now Donald Trump's closest rival, stopped in the "Spin Room" to talk about his strategy for the debate.

"I want to talk about how do we stimulate the economy? I want to talk about the effects of regulations," Carson said.

With the top tier of Republican presidential candidates ready to rumble, others know they'll be fighting for attention.

"I am hopeful that the answers are a little bit longer. They`re 90-second answers tonight. I`m hoping I get asked some of those questions," Paul said.

The undercard debate features Rick Santorum, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee and Bobby Jindal.
