Admirals on a roll, win sixth straight with 3-1 victory over Checkers

CHARLOTTE, NC--Goalie Juuse Saros stopped 30 shots to help the Milwaukee Admirals sweep a weekend two-game set in a 3-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers Saturday night.

Charlotte’s Drayson Bowman spoiled Saros’ shutout bid with :30 remaining in the game with a shot from the blue line that deflected off a defender. Like the previous night, Saros was very busy in the third period. Saros stopped 12 of 13 shots Saturday after seeing 15 shots in the third period on Friday against the Checkers.

Milwaukee has won six straight games and has earned points in seven straight (6-0-1-0).

Milwaukee was able to claim a 2-0 lead in the first period. The first Admirals goal was scored by Eric Robinson at 15:01 of the first period. Ads defenseman Conor Allen was able to snag a loose puck at center ice and feed Jamie Devane on the right wing. As Devane crossed the blue line, he flipped a pass to Robinson, who was breaking to the goal. Robinson popped a shot over the left glove of Checkers goalie Rasmus Tirronen. Robinson has played three games for the Admirals and has a point in each one (two goals, one assist).

The Admirals second goal came on the power play at 19:32 of the first frame. Max Gortz was able to grab a loose, bouncing puck at the Checkers blue line. He and Viktor Arvidsson then proceeded toward the net against one defender. Gortz fed a pass to Arvidsson in the left circle and Arvidsson wristed the puck inside the right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season, third on the power play. Gortz and Vladislav Kamenev were awarded assists.

Defenseman Trevor Murphy scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead at 10:54 of the second period. After a faceoff, Kamenev was able to tap the puck to Murphy at the right point. Murphy sent a shot to the goal that found its way past Tirronen for his fourth goal of the season. Murphy has a goal in four straight games, which is tied for the longest streak in the AHL this season.

Milwaukee’s next game is Wednesday, Nov. 18 against Chicago at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
