Attorneys for Lt. Gliniewicz's widow file motion due to freeze order on her accounts

FOX LAKE, Ill. — Prosecutors have frozen the bank accounts of the wife of a northern Illinois police officer who authorities say killed himself after years of embezzling from a police-sponsored youth program.

Attorneys for Melodie Gliniewicz say she can't pay her mortgage, medical bills and other expenses because of a freeze order on her accounts.

Lt. Joe Gliniewicz

The freeze went into effect a day after Fox Lake Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's suicide and thefts were revealed.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Na5yDx) Melodie Gliniewicz's attorneys on Tuesday released an affidavit from the Lake County State's Attorney seeking to freeze her bank accounts. It alleges the couple spent $5,600 on a trip to Hawaii and $7,200 on hormone supplements among other expenses.

Melodie Gliniewicz's attorneys have filed a motion to stop the bank account freeze.
