Racine man sentenced for his role in theft of food from "Main Moon" delivery driver

RACINE COUNTY -- A 20-year-old Racine man has been sentenced for his role in the theft of food from a delivery driver back in January.

Darius Perry, Shaquille Stevenson

Shaquille Stevenson in September pleaded no contest to a felony charge of armed robbery as party to a crime.

A charge of aggravated battery, causing intentional bodily harm, use of a dangerous weapon was dismissed.

In court on Tuesday, November 17th, Stevenson was sentenced to serve seven years in prison, and five years extended supervision in the case.

He has been ordered to pay $55 restitution to "Main Moon" and he cannot be on "Main Moon's" property. He can have no contact with the delivery driver who was the victim in this case.

A restitution hearing has been scheduled for January 8th for Stevenson.

Two other people, in addition to Stevenson, were arrested in this case.

20-year-old Darius Perry faces one count of armed robbery, use of a dangerous weapon, as party to a crime -- and one count of aggravated battery, intentionally causing great bodily harm.

He too pleaded guilty to the armed robbery charge, and the aggravated battery charge was dismissed.

Perry will be sentenced on December 3rd.

The third actor in this case was a 17-year-old boy.

Police responded to Main Moon, located on Erie Street, around 8:30 p.m. on January 26th, 2015 for reports of a robbery to their delivery driver.

"He had received a call to deliver food to the 1500 block of Superior. Once he got out of the vehicle, he was struck in the back of the head by a baseball bat," said Racine Police Lt. Al Days.

The victim was taken to Wheaton Franciscan Medical Center where he received treatment for his injuries.

The suspects then fled from the scene on foot -- not with cash -- but food.

When officers eventually got to the scene of the crime, the weather helped them catch a clue.

"There were three distinct sets of footprints in the snow, 'cause it had snowed yesterday. So, officers took those three distinct sets of footprints and followed them away from the scene to an address in the 1600 block of Douglas," said Days.

Once there, Days says the officers established a perimeter -- and later convinced three suspects to surrender.

"Preliminary search of the home did find evidence that the food items were still in the address," said Days.

The three suspects, identified as Stevenson, Perry and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested.
