Test Drive: Trying out accident avoidance tech on the redesigned 2016 Toyota Prius

MILWAUKEE -- The best selling hybrid car is getting a makeover. We're taking a look at the all-new 2016 Toyota Prius.
Toyota has sold over three and a half million Prius' since its worldwide launch in 2000. Now, the hybrid is getting a makeover for 2016. The look is all-new and MPG is up 6% - the Eco model can now achieve up to 58 miles to the gallon.

There is also better crash avoidance technology called "Toyota Safety Sense." Basically, this system will stop the car if you are about to run into something and don't press the brakes.

Toyota brought me to a test course near Laguna, California to try out the crash avoidance tech and see how improved the handling is. The pre-collision warning system will sound alerts when it senses you are coming up to a non-moving object without braking - if you don't respond, it will stop the car short. This is pretty amazing and I can definitely see this technology saving lives and preventing distracted driving accidents and especially fender benders. The new Prius also hugs the road and is considerably quieter than the old model.

Price for the new Prius ranges from about $24,000-$30,000 depending on options.

I also took a look at the brand new RAV4 Hybrid, which Toyota is introducing for the 2016 model year. The company is trying to make this car a "no-brainer," since the hybrid model will only cost $700 more than a comparably equipped gas version.
